I must say I am both humbled and honored to have been chosen to serve as Palm Bay’s police chief. I grew up in this agency starting from the bottom and working my way up through the ranks. For 25 years I have poured my heart and soul into this agency, from patrol officer to SWAT team member and detective then to sergeant on up. Whether it was in an operational or tactical role or an administrative role, my service in all of these positions has taught me so much and I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it. I am looking forward to making my “mark” (pun intended) as we move into the future.
First I want to thank all the men and women, both sworn and civilian who dedicate themselves to working hard day in and day out for this agency and the public we serve. From those on the front lines to those behind the scenes, they all play such an important and critical role in our overall success. The city as well as our department has gone through unprecedented changes over the past few months. Within the police department we have seen a significant turnover due to the retirements of our most veteran officers as well as other attrition. The challenge to fill these vacancies has been daunting as we continue to recruit the most talented law enforcement professionals. As we try to keep pace with the demand I have had to make some tough decisions including movement of personnel to fill manning requirements. These changes were necessary to sufficiently staff our patrol division, which remains our primary responsibility.
At the heart of everything we do is our mission—to Connect, Serve and Impact. By connecting we build trust within the community through honesty, transparency and continually growing relationships with our citizens, visitors and our businesses. We “Serve” by providing ethical, responsible and professional police services. And finally, we “Impact” by making a positive difference working with our citizens, community and other city departments on quality of life issues, reducing crime and reducing the fear of crime. I believe this mission statement encompasses all that is necessary to have an effective police department. Recent events in Ferguson and Baltimore emphasize the importance of connecting and building trust and respect among those we protect and serve. It is absolutely the most critical investment we can make in securing our peace and security.
Economic development is one of the city’s primary goals. Our role in this is to continue to provide a safe community in which businesses and developers are attracted to. We always strive to be a community in which the police department is approachable, compassionate, understanding and decisive. This takes strong leadership at every level and I’m proud to say we have this leadership team in place and are ready to move forward. Let’s all work together to accomplish great things for this great city we all call home.

Nuevo jefe de Palm Bay PD se conecta con la comunidad
Debo decir que me siento a la vez humilde y honrado por haber sido elegido para servir como mayor de la policía de Palm Bay. Crecí en esta agencia empezando desde abajo, forjando mi camino.
Durante 25 años he vertido mi alma y corazón en esta agencia, desde oficial de patrulla a miembro del equipo SWAT y luego de sargento detective en adelante. Ya fuera en un papel operativo o táctico o una función administrativa, mi servicio en todas estas posiciones me ha enseñado tanto y honestamente puedo decir que he disfrutado cada minuto.
Tengo muchas ganas de dejar mi “marca” (nunca mejor dicho) a medida que avanzamos hacia el futuro.
En primer lugar quie-ro agradecer a todos los hombres y mujeres, tanto en juramento, como civiles, que se dedican a trabajar duro día tras día para esta agencia y el público al que servimos. Desde los que están al frente de las filas, hasta los que están detrás de las escenas, todos juegan un papel tan importante y fundamental en nuestro éxito global.
La ciudad, así como nuestro departamento, se ha sometido a cambios sin precedentes en los últimos meses. Dentro del departamento de policía, hemos visto un cambio de perso-nal significativo, debido a las jubilaciones de nuestros oficiales más veteranos, así como también, por otros motivos. El desafío para llenar estas vacantes ha sido desalentador, debido a que deseamos reclutar a los más talentosos profesionales de la ley.
Al tratar de seguir el ritmo de la demanda, he tenido que tomar algunas decisiones difíciles, incluyendo el movimiento de personal para llenar los requisitos de dotación. Estos cambios eran necesa-rios para proveer el personal para nuestra división de patrulla, que sigue siendo nuestra principal responsabilidad.
El fondo de todo lo que hacemos es nuestra misión de Conectar, Servir e Impactar. Conectando construimos confianza dentro de la comunidad a través de la honestidad, la transparencia y el continuo crecimiento de las relaciones con nuestros ciudadanos, visitantes y nuestros asuntos. Nosotros “Servimos”, proporcionando servicios de policía éticos, responsables y profesio-nales.
Y finalmente, “Impactamos”, haciendo una diferencia positiva, trabajando con nuestros ciudadanos, la comunidad y otros departamentos de la ciudad en asuntos relacionados con la calidad de vida, reduciendo la delincuencia y el miedo a esta.
Creo que esta declaración de misión abarca todo lo que es necesario para tener un departamento de policía eficaz. Los recientes acontecimientos en Ferguson y Baltimore enfatizan la importancia de la co-nexión y la construcción de la confianza y el respeto entre los que protegemos y servimos. Es absolutamente la inversión más importante que podemos hacer para asegurar nuestra paz y seguridad.
El desarrollo econó-mico es uno de los objetivos principales de la ciudad. Nuestro papel en esto es continuar proporcionan-do una comunidad segura, por la que las empresas y los desarrolladores se sien-ten atraídos. Siempre nos esforzamos por ser una comunidad en la que el departamento de policía sea accesible, compasivo, comprensivo y decisivo.
Esto conlleva a un fuerte liderazgo en todos los niveles y estoy orgu-lloso de decir que tenemos este equipo de liderazgo en su lugar y estamos listos para seguir adelante. Vamos todos a trabajar juntos para lograr grandes cosas para esta gran ciudad que todos llamamos hogar.]]>
